Kate has worked with children and families in the NHS, as a paediatric nurse and as a Health Visitor, for many years. Her passion for health education and health promotion led her to set up her own practice at the end of last year. Fledgling Parents provides a Health Visiting service independent from the NHS, paediatric first aid instruction and baby massage tuition. Kate’s aim is to provide information, skills and support for new parents and their networks.
Kate is flexible in her approach and there are various ways in which her services can be accessed; She runs regular workshops and courses in paediatric first aid and baby massage. Her ‘Well Baby Café’ postnatal course includes elements of both and is an ideal opportunity to socialise with other Mums and Dads whilst gaining new knowledge and skills. Kate is happy to provide home based services enabling you to organise a course or session in your own home. (Paediatric first aid workshops are proving particularly popular). One aspect of Kate’s work which makes her unique is her focus on Dads and the important role they play in childcare and family life. Kate runs ‘well baby workshops for Dads’ every month and each one has a different focus on child health. Kate plans to run paediatric first aid courses for grandparents in the near future!
Kate is currently providing paediatric first aid courses for sixth formers in secondary schools across Gloucestershire, and has recently been commissioned to work in a Children’s Centre in Gloucester where she will be providing health education, and working one to one with Mums and Dads.
Kate believes that Health Visitors within the NHS provide an invaluable service to families with pre-school children. Fledgling Parents provides parents with the option of accessing further health information, skills and support regarding their family health needs. Babysitters, nurseries, nannies, au-pairs, grandparents and anyone else involved in supporting families are able to access the service too.
